Step 1: Water pH.
To begin with, measure the pH of the water weekly with TEST STRIPS to get a feel for how the chemicals work. Chlorine and bromine tend to lower the acidity (pH values), so PH-PLUS should be used to balance the acidity of the water.
Step 2: Disinfectant.
You can choose between several materials for disinfecting the water. At Heitirpottar.is, we mainly work with CHLORINE TABLETS or BROMINE TABLETS , both substances are made from salt.
We recommend both. Chlorine is stronger than bromine, but bromine is odorless. The chlorine will also be odorless when step 3 is done. You completely decide which material you want to use, regardless of the result. It is necessary to use more bromine than chlorine since bromine is only 70% of the strength of chlorine.
The test strip also measures the chlorine/bromine levels in the tub. So you also check them along the way weekly. If they are too high, the spending should be reduced. To control the consumption of chlorine/bromine, we use FLOTHOLT .
Step 3: Refreshing water, treatment (Spa Shock in English).
The water in the tub should be "refreshed" weekly. POTTAHRESSIR is a powder that is placed in a small amount weekly into the tub. This is a process designed to eliminate waste compounds that accumulate in the water. Burns out chloramines that build up as a byproduct of chlorine use and helps keep water clean.
Step 4: Filters
If your electric pot allows it, we recommend a micro filter over an old fashioned cardboard filter. Cardboard filters require a lot of maintenance, it is necessary to: rinse weekly, clean with chemicals monthly and put extra chemicals in a pot so that the cardboard filter works optimally. Our experience after ten years in this business is that people don't bother with this, which is completely understandable, it's a lot of work.
The micro filters (marked as "Disposable filters" on the sheet below) last 4-6 months, need no maintenance except to check the condition of the filter once a month.
